IT'S NATIONAL RUNNING DAY

IT’S NATIONAL RUNNING DAY!! You guys, what the heck!? I woke up this morning and ran to my National Running Day Tree and the National Running Day Fairy TOTALLY didn’t leave me a present…I guess she knows that I've been slacking on my strength training and that I may or may not have cheated on Saturday when I ate my body weight in cheese and crackers at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic…Oh well, there’s always next year I guess.

Today I am running my very first 5K! (Please don’t be intimidated. I know it’s a big deal.) I have no clue what I am doing because quite honestly I don’t really run short distances. I get itchy when I don't run for distance because for some reason, even if I am doing speed training, I feel like I am cheating if I don’t log 6+ miles! I KNOW IT’S PREPOSTEROUS because it just aint true! It’s all in my head because as we discussed yesterday, speed training can actually burn more calories (not that it matters) than a steady long run. I don’t run to knock off calories, I do it to maintain my health and train. (Ok, also so I don’t snap and do something utterly insane. Mental health is real and life is hard. Running makes it a teeny tiny bit easier for me.)

BUT today’s 5k, to selfie or not to selfie?! It’s such a quick run! And I plan on running at the speed of light (hahahaha jk my goal time is 25 ish minutes. I haven’t run to run for speed since I was probably in elementary school. I have no clue how this is going to go...)

But there’s all sorts of groovy deals and events happening today to celebrate National Running Day. Women’s Running is holding a 24 hour sale where you can get a year subscription for $10 or a 2 year subscription for $20! CLICK HERE TO MAKE IT RAIN IN WOMEN’S RUNNING MAGAZINE. Seriously that’s a steal and if you’re a runner or someone looking to stay healthy it’s an amazing magazine to subscribe to. AND you’ll be receiving the July issue featuring a certain hottie hunter blogger on the run, ME!

But the coolest of the National Running Day events is a chance to PLEDGE YOUR MILES TO CHARITY! If you plan on going out for a run or a walk today follow these three easy steps to effortlessly support a charity of your choice:

Step 1: Download the free Charity Miles app to your iPhone or Android.

Step 2:  Choose the charity you want to support.

Step 3: Select walk or run, and start moving! Every mile logged produces a donation toward your selected charity.

Yesterday I met up for a run with the super groovy social media all-star @phill_mina to plan our #CentralParkShuffle. IT WAS POURING RAIN! We got so ridiculously wet. But we are hardcore and I had some running to do. We decided the #CentralParkShuffle throw down will take place in Central Park Sunday July 13, 2014. We are putting our teams together so it will be The Insta-Runners vs The Run Selfie Repeaters. If you are going to be in the NYC area July 13 and want in on the action, shoot me an introductory email at RunSelfieRepeat@gmail.com and stay tuned for details! It’s going to be ridiculous and all sorts of a good time.

Kelly Roberts

My name is Kelly Roberts and I am a 25 year old New York City resident. My story made headlines when I took selfies with hot guys “hottie hunting” my way through the NYC Half Marathon. My blog, www.RunSelfieRepeat.com is bursting with humor and personal stories that lend an insight into the world of running and lead you to believe that just about anyone, regardless of their fitness level, can and should fall in love with running. Though currently an avid runner, I never would have predicted I would run marathons. I was the kid who used to hide in the bushes or play dead to get out of running the mile in school. I HATED running. But running has given me a purpose. It’s shown me that I really am limitless. In the two years since I started running, I’ve run multiple half marathons, 10ks, and 5ks, and two full marathons. My mission is to inspire others to find the courage to say yes to themselves all the while making them laugh hysterically because laughing is the solution to everything.
